Irons

The 7-iron is not a diplomat for the set

People want us to “just do the 7” because a video said that club is the spokesman. On canyon dirt the 4-iron and the pitching wedge often vote differently. We press them as a family or we send you home with a note, not a lonely celebrity hosel.

Long versus short

You do not stand the same when Y Mountain is in the picture

Long irons get a wider stance and a more careful lean when the canyon wind is up. Short irons get a narrower, more vertical argument. A single bite applied to every hosel is how you “fix” the 7 and ruin the 4. We paint each head. We do not assume the shine repeats like wallpaper.

Heel moons are common on mid-irons in this valley because factory upright sits proud on firm turf. Toe scuffs show up more on the scoring irons of players who crowd the ball when the green is close. Both can live in one bag. Both get their own copper.

Progression

We will not flatten the set into a slogan

Some rooms love a tidy story: “everything 1° flat.” Tidy stories photograph well. They also ignore the player who stands taller on a 5-iron. Our tickets often show a small stair of bites, not a chorus line. If you need the chorus line for peace of mind, another shop will sell it to you.

Graphite irons get smaller bites and more re-paint. Cast cavities with old creases get a refusal. See the iron family fare and the six strokes.

What we want you to bring

  • Five through pitching wedge, even the one you never hit
  • The 4-iron if it still lives in the bag and still leaks
  • Shoes from Hobble Creek, not the pair from campus
